NGC6820 is a HII emission nebula with an associated cluster (NGC6823) in the constellation of Vulpecula.
The cluster is approx 6,000 light years away and about 50 light-years across. The bright stars at the centre are a mere 2 million years old, having been formed around the time the first humans started wandering around Africa.
The dark line pointing to the bright central stars, is a huge pillar of dust which can be seen more clearly in this false colour APOD image.
