Information...

A collection of USB Microscope photo's from Erika Trueman's collection:-

  • Canyon Diablo Barringer Crater - part of the huge Iron meteorite that created the famous Barringer Crater in Arizona about 30,000 years ago
  • Chelyabinsk_Siberia LL5 Chondrite - Small fragment from the 15 Feb. 2013 comet.
  • Dikhote Alin siderite Vladivostok - Fragment of iron meteorite that exploded over the Russian Naval Base in Vladivostok 12th Feb 1947 (that supposedly nearly caused World War III - thankfully the Soviet's didn't have nuclear capability at the time!)
  • Egyptian Desert Glass Eastern Sahara - Produced by an explosion of a comet over the desert about 28 million years ago. Some of the glass was found in items of jewellery in Tutankhamun's tomb.
  • Moldavite perhaps from Ries Crater - Glass from the Czech Republic & thought to have been formed by the impact of the meteor that made the Ries crater in Germany.
  • NWA 869 Chondrite Sahara Desert - small chondrite with olivine, pyroxene and nickel-iron
  • NWA 2949 Eucrite poss. from Regolith of 4-Vesta - Eucrite found in Morocco in 2005. Thought to have originated in the regolith of the large asteroid 4-Vesta
  • NWA 3118 - Carbonaceous Chondrite from Moroccan fall Dec. 2003... containing amino acids.
  • Taenite_Campo del Cielo - Nickel-iron from meteorite that fell in Argentina over 6,000 year ago
